He was born in Waxahachie, Texas and attended school in Ellis County. He followed his father into the plumbing trade and worked in the construction of several military bases prior to World War II.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in F Company, 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Division where he saw combat on the islands of Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in action. Participated in the Occupation of Japan at Nagasaki after the second atomic bombing.
He returned to Texas after the war and soon married Janice Cariker. He and his father operated a plumbing supply business and septic tank service in Dallas, Texas. In 1952 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and established his own septic tank service, Ed Anderson & Son. “Ed”, as he was known to many, worked until 2007 when health issues forced him to retire and close his business after 55 years of hard work.
James was a great talker and storyteller, loved to dance and always enjoyed a good cigar.
