

Atlanta native, Jewell Yvonne Croom, the daughter of Elbert Francis Croom, Sr. and Jewell Nolan Croom, died on Friday, June 12, 2015. Ms. Croom was a graduate of Girls High School and she received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Vermont, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She received a Master of Education Degree from Emory University and a T6 (Educational Specialist) Certification from the University of Georgia.
Ms. Croom taught in the Vermont Public Schools, the Dependents Schools in Izmir, Turkey, and at Georgia State University, prior to teaching in the Atlanta Public Schools. She was a member of the American Education Association, the National Education Association, the Georgia Education Association, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women Educators. She served for two years as the President of the 5th District Council for the Social Studies. After retiring from the Atlanta Public Schools, she worked as a professional actress in Atlanta.
Ms. Croom was a member of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, the Joseph Habersham Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Atlanta Chapter #18 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. For many years, she was a member of the Druid Hills Golf Club.
She is survived by Dr. and Mrs. Clark Glass and Family and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Race and Family. Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Chapter of American Heart Association.
A visitation shall be held on Friday, June 19th at 1:00 p.m., at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment shall be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th at Westview Cemetery.
