

Robert L. Haralson Sr. a long time resident of Smyrna, Georgia, but for the last eight years a resident of Greenville, South Carolina, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the age of 91. Born in Danville, Kentucky to Wade and Lizzie Haralson, Robert was one of nine children. He was preceded in death by his brothers Howell, Wade, Jack, and Buddy, and his sisters Frances and Louise. He is survived by his sisters, Virginia Bradbury and Elizabeth Sherman, both of Tyrone, Georgia. Robert was married for 66 years to Bernice (Bunny) Tidwell Haralson, who also survives him. Additionally, he is survived by his two children, Robert L. Haralson Jr. (Jeannie) of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Susan Elaine Haralson Beaver (Dan) of Mauldin, South Carolina. He was a Grandfather to Jamie Leigh Beaver Newsome (Brandon) of Belton, South Carolina, Evan K. Beaver of Greenville, South Carolina, J. Ross Haralson (Lindsey) of Newnan, Georgia, and S. Kevin Haralson of East Point, Georgia. He was Great Grandfather to Lana Newsome, Logan Newsome, and Laykin Newsome of Belton, South Carolina, and Spencer Haralson of Newnan, Georgia. He was also a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews. Robert served in World War II as a Gunnery Sergeant in Belgium, France, and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his wartime service. He was a retired electrician having worked for Fulton Brothers Electric Company and Fowler Electric Company, both of Atlanta, and he was a 70 year member of Atlanta Local 613 of the IBEW. He was a long time member of the Christian Church where he served in years past as an Elder as well as Chairman of the Building and Grounds ministry. Services will be held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home of East Point, Georgia on Friday, September 11th at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Visitation will precede the service from noon until 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Lee Delbridge, Minister will officiate. If so desired, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to your local church or favorite charity.
