

Ruby Adams Focht, age 93, died July 13, 2015 at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett. She had a great evening having dinner with friends and enjoying the music at the weekly hymn sing before she passed away peacefully after going to bed. Ruby was born in Alexander City, Alabama on Dec. 9, 1921 and her family moved to East Point, GA in 1924. The family built a house on Linwood Avenue in 1926, where she lived for about 75 years. She graduated from the University of GA with honors and received her Specialist in Education Degree from Georgia State University while teaching at Conley Hills Elementary School. She also served as Assistant Principal, and Principal before retiring. She loved her students and they loved her back. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Point, GA, for over 80 years, where she served on various committees, women’s groups and taught Sunday School. She was a member and President of the East Point Garden Club and loved flowers of all kinds.Ruby was the kind of person others seek out – full of stories, and had love and compassion for others. She loved playing Canasta and Bridge (and winning!). Her husband Bob died in 1997. She is survived by her three children- Bob Focht of Stone Mountain, GA; Richard Focht of Centreville, VA (Debbie); and Sally Campbell of Lawrenceville, GA (Bill); 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. Ruby was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by her siblings. She lived with Sally and Bill in Lawrenceville from 2003 until 2013, and attended Fairview Presbyterian Church. In 2013 Ruby moved to Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, instantly making new friends and enjoying the remainder of her life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of East Point. Interment Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-9 pm at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home 2968 East Point St. East Point, GA 30344. Donations can be made to Crossroads Hospice or Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett, and the family also welcomes flowers for the service.
