Angela Maria “Marie” Pellegrino Contini passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2020 in Chattanooga, Tennesseee at the age of 91 years old. Born January 25, 1929 in Venosa, Italy to Alicandro and Angela (Pedone) Pellegrino. Marie met the love of her life, an American soldier during World War II and would later marry Matteo “Matthew” Phillip Contini in 1946 in a wedding that the whole town of Venosa would attend in celebration.
She started her family after immigrating to New York and became the most loving and devoted Mother and Nonna. She lived a vibrant and full life of traveling between Italy and throughout the United States to care for her family and loved ones. She always wanted to be near her family and especially enjoyed being close to growing grandchildren.
A believer in Christ and devout Catholic, She took every opportunity to teach lessons on love, kindness, compassion, and prayer for others while holding a strong sense of stubbornness for one’s own well being at the forefront of her nature. She knew what she wanted and stopped at nothing to obtain her goals.
Marie was the most intentional and flexible, yet structured woman, worthy of watching and learning from at every turn. Marie never left for tomorrow what should be done today and always went about her tasks, no matter how mundane or ritualistic, with a cheerful spirit. She could turn the simple hand washing of clothing or hand crafting of sewing an exquisite gown into a memory making moment of laughter and dancing while teaching a life lesson and you never had a clue that she had been schooling you all along the way.
When you went to see her, there were two things that would be certain; you wouldn’t leave her presence sad or hungry. A “Mother to All” she never had idle hands and was always busy doing good for someone. She had a way of healing the hearts of everyone she touched and making sure they had a full belly, a warm hat, or a crocheted blanket with which to snuggle whenever you needed it.
Marie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Matthew Sr., son Alan, parents Angela and Alicandro, brothers Francesco, Claudio, Tonino, sister Rosaria, and grandson Rick. She is survived by many family and friends with hearts full of love for her on this earth; her children Richard, Laura, and Matthew Jr., grandchildren Christina, Angel, April, Karen, Joseph, Stephanie, and Brooke; great grandchildren; Joda, Jasmine, Jewel, Victoria, Christopher, Izaya, Laurabelle, Erika, Patrick, Elizabeth, Elysia, October, Bailey, Sailor, Marley, Erik, Matthew, Joseph, Trinity; and even great, great grandchildren; Marley Jade, Killian, and Litha.

NECROLOGIO
Angela Maria Pellegrino Contini 25 GENNAIO 1929-16 OTTOBRE 2020
