Artie M. Brown

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family.

Artie was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church, in Chattanooga, TN, and formerly of Erlanger Baptist Church in Lexington, NC. She retired from J.C. Penney in 1985, following more than 18 years of service. Prior to joining J.C. Penney, she was employed with National Wholesale Inc. in Lexington, NC.

Artie was preceded in death by her parents, William Preston Masingo and Ella Masingo Fouse; her husband of 65 years, Carl Brown; her siblings, Floyd Masingo, J.D. Masingo, Hazel Stewart and husband Malcolm, and Kermit Masingo, all of Charlestown, IN, and Bruce Masingo and wife Myrtle Masingo of Middlesboro, KY. Brothers-in-law William Howard Brown of Gastonia, NC, Joe T. Brown and wife Mattie Brown, and Stewart Brown, all of Lexington, NC, and Sister-in-law Mina Swicegood and husband Peg Swicegood of Lexington, NC.

Artie is survived by her daughters, Susan Wall of Birmingham, AL, Martha (Marty) McCarver and husband, Leroy McCarver of Ringgold, GA, and Joan Smith and husband Dean Smith of Macon, GA.; Grandchildren, Carla McIntyre and husband Josh McIntyre, Chad Smith and wife Susan Smith, Laurissa Stone, Wendy Nace and husband Randy Nace, Betsy Wall, Jamie Starr and husband Anthony Starr, Jennifer Stone, Ryan Smith, and Lauren Smith; Great grandchildren, Taylor Flood, Austin Starr, Hannah McIntyre and Josh McIntyre, Hunter Eubanks, and Haley Eubanks; Siblings, Frank Masingo and wife Nancy Masingo, Lloyd Masingo and wife Jean Masingo, all of Salisbury, NC, Pat Hutchinson and husband Norman Hutchinson, Philip and Carl Fouse all of Charlestown, IN . Sisters-in-law Georgia Myers and husband John W. Myers of Lexington, NC, and June Brown of Gastonia, NC.

The family will receive friends and family Thursday evening from 7-9 and Friday from 12 Noon to 1 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
