Barbara Rowland Cockrell, 79, of Chattanooga passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 in a local hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Barbara was retired from Memorial Hospital after 25 years in Nuclear Medicine then ran the Nuclear Medicine Department at Diagnostic Hospital. She was a member of the Nuclear Medicine Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, was an avid painter and jewelry maker and a world traveler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis L. and Lela Green Rowland and two brothers, Bobby Rowland and Wayne Rowland.
Survivors include her husband. Lee Cockrell; two daughters, Deborah Pittman of Tampa, FL and Ann Spaziani of Palm Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Jason Eric Cockrell, Alicia Gesmondie, Brittany Spaziani and Michael Spaziani, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Gesmondie and Alivia Gesmondie.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Jim Vick officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with a rosary service at 7:30 PM.
