

Betty Lou Beavers (Bebe), passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2015, in the presence of her family. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, April 7, 1925, to the late Harry L. and Julia McAmis Hooper. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church and the Volunteer Class.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, she graduated Tyner High School before assuming work as a legal secretary for the law firm of Vandiver and Parks, and later for attorney Harold Brown. After raising her family, she returned to the legal field as a deputy in the Office of the Clerk and Master at the Hamilton County Courthouse. She loved this job, enjoyed working with various attorneys and judges, and often took it upon herself to welcome newcomers. At her retirement, she was commended as a person of integrity and loyalty, and as the "unofficial social director" of the Office. She often described her twenty six years at the courthouse as "the happiest time of her life."
"Bebe" was an animated storyteller, delighting her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, (and anyone who would listen), with her recollections and anecdotes.By the younger generation, Bebe was considered "a trip."
She loved family gatherings, holidays, but especially her grandchildren and great "grands." Anyone who met her would say she had a gift for making a stranger feel as though he were family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Julia Hooper; husband, Gerald Beavers; brothers, Lewis Hooper, Hilton Hooper, Willard Hooper; sister, Gladys Merrell. Survivors include: her daughter, Susan (Richard) Ireland; son, Robert Scott Beavers; sister, Barbara (Robert) Summar; brother, Richard Hooper; grandchildren, Adam Griffin Ireland; Nicholas (Melissa) Ireland; Susannah (Jason) Ireland Loveless, and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Bruce Sloan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 until 1 prior to the funeral service at 1 p. m. The burial and graveside service will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church located at 6 North Moore Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37411, or the charity of one's choice.
