Stephen Bryant Brown, 69, passed away on July 31, 2026. Born on December 24, 1956, Bryant’s life was marked by deep devotion—to God, to family, and to the many people he served—along with a good-natured humor that could turn ordinary moments into something warmer and unforgettable.
Bryant served as a pastor for 30 years and held degrees from Red Bank High School, Central Christian College of the Bible, University of Tennessee Knoxville, Lincoln Christian Seminary, and Covenant Theological Seminary. His ministry was shaped by a steady heart for people, showing up, listening well, laughing, and caring with sincerity.
Later in life, he served as a travel franchise owner and advisor. Whether in ministry or travel, Bryant’s work was, at its core, about serving.
Bryant is survived by his wife, Jane, of 48 years and their children: David Brown (Lynn), Mark Brown (Deborah), and Amy Walz (Marco). He was affectionately called G-dad by seven grandchildren: Miles, Madelynn, Lucy, Rebekah, Penelope, Felix, and Isabelle, and is also survived by his two sisters, Lynn Short and Treena Templeton. He loved being a husband, father, and grandfather, and his love for his family was unmistakable.
His life was celebratory because he met it with faith, devotion, laughter, and a willingness to show up for others again and again. His family and friends will miss him deeply, and they will carry forward the legacy he gave so freely.
A Celebration of Bryant's life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Tuesday August 4, 2026, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one-hour prior beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tri-Village Christian Church: The Promise Campaign at tri-village.org/giving or St. Andrew’s Anglican Church at saclr.org/giving.
