Carol Carruthers Wallace, a native Chattanoogan, was 82 years old when she died at Standifer Place in the early morning hours of July 5, 2020. She was lively and independent until about a year ago when she began to require assisted care. She was in a coma for just one week before she died peacefully. Her family grieves terribly her passing but we honor her long happy productive life.
She is survived by her two children, Kathy Chamberlin and Chuck Wallace (Barbara), her stepson David Wallace (Joan), her brother Gordon Caruthers (Ruth), six grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. These great grandchildren were the blessings of her later years. She adored them all, her pride and joy.
Carol was married to Jim Wallace for 35 years until his passing in 1998.
She attended City High School until 1954, and remained close to many classmates.
Before marriage to Jim, Carol found time to perform in amateur theatricals with her church friends. She was a lifelong member of First Centenary Methodist Church where her children and grandchildren were baptized. A devoted member of the Hodge Sunday School class at Centenary, class members were among her closest friends.
Services will be limited because of current health concerns and will be held graveside in the Chattanooga Memorial Park on Friday July 10, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. There will be no visitation.
Carol’s family would appreciate donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital or the Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Rd. East Ridge, TN 37412.
