Carolyn Sue Jones

Carolyn Sue Jones, 88, was born April 8, 1938, in Houston, TX., and died June 29, 2026. A resident of Miramar, Florida, Carolyn lived with a steady, uplifting spirit, one that celebrated life, leaned on faith, and quietly made room for others through a lifetime of giving.

She grew up in Chattanooga, TN, where her energy and determination showed early. Athletic and spirited, she was named most athletic girl for high school basketball, and she also learned tap dancing at a young age, an art she carried with her for years, including dancing in an annual program at her church.

Carolyn was hard-working to the core, with a mind that loved order and numbers. She excelled in bookkeeping and sales, numbers were always her thing. She worked as a bookkeeper in Cincinnati, OH, for a clothing store and a large grocery store, and later became a real estate agent for many years, always keeping up with her family’s listings and offering helpful advice. Her dedication was matched by achievement, earning top sales awards with SuperValu and JCPenney. She worked full time at both jobs to put Mark and Ben through college, an enduring reflection of her selfless love and unwavering commitment to her family.

In her personal life, Carolyn found joy in friendship, community, and simple pleasures that made ordinary days feel bright. She loved bridge and canasta and played weekly, delighting not only in the games themselves but in the warm, loyal connections they nurtured. She also planted vegetable gardens and flowers for many years, tending them with the same care she offered to the people around her.

Carolyn’s faith and service were central to her life. She was a member of Church in the Glades in Miramar, FL, and taught Sunday school in Chattanooga, TN. She carried a deep desire to “do the right thing,” and her generosity was not abstract, it was practical, consistent, and compassionate. She took many of her elderly friends to appointments, helped care for elderly friends who were bedridden, and cared for her sister-in-law who had Alzheimer’s for two years. In countless quiet ways, Carolyn lived as someone who simply would not let others be alone in their need.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Jones, whom she missed greatly and looked forward to joining again. She is survived by her children: Kathy Walker; Mark Jones (wife Ana); and Benjamin Jones (wife Kelly). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michelle Walker; Taylor Walker (wife Caitlin); Hope Fayard (husband Josh); Jordan Jones; and Chloe Jones; and by her great-grandchildren: Levi Walker, Isaac Walker, Jema Fayard, and Nora Fayard.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Mark for providing living arrangements and for his communication with her doctors; and to Ana for transporting her to appointments and bridge and canasta, and for technical help with computer and phone. Gratitude is also shared for her church, Pastor Dan, neighbors, friends, and family for their love and support.

In her final days, as neighbors, church friends, and family surrounded her and prayed for her, Carolyn was still thinking of others—praying for them. Her words remain a guiding light: “I have a good attitude; Prayer; Do not stop, keep going and doing; Keep doing for other people.” She also said, “Enjoy Life! I am not afraid. I am in God’s hands.” These were not just phrases to her they were a way of living: faithful, fun loving, and deeply altruistic, with a heart that kept giving.

A Celebration of Carolyn's Life will be held at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Sunday July 5, 2026, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Russ Maroon officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband, T.J. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday July 6, 2026, at 10:00 am.

Carolyn’s life was a gift, steadfast, giving, and grounded in faith. Those who knew her will carry forward the uplift she offered so freely: keep going, keep praying, and keep doing for other people.
