Catherine Reed Owens

Catherine Reed Owens,86, of Chattanooga passed away on March 4, 2025. She was born in Knoxville, TN., on July 24, 1938, to the late Robert King Smith and Kathleen Gang Smith. Catherine attended nursing school while in Knoxville and received her Bachelors degree in Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse and worked for Parkridge and Memorial Hospitals as well as in Home Health Care. She was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in East Ridge.

She was the best mom in the world and took pride in being a published author in the opinion pages of the local newspaper. She loved to work on crossword puzzles and Anagrams. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lamar Owens, her son, Edward Joseph Owens, a sister, Nancy Burke, and her brother, Robert K. Smith.

Left behind to cherish Catherine’s memory are her sons, Tony Owens and Thomas Owens, and her granddaughter, Jolene Owens (Grady Ogle), several nephews and many dear friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening, March 7th from 5-7 PM and Saturday, March 8th from 3-5 pm at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest privately with her beloved husband, Lamar, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
