With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Catherine Nancy Spears on October 12, 2026, at the age of 73 in her home in East Ridge, Tennessee.
Catherine was the daughter of Jack Bobo Crutcher and Anne Gateway Crutcher and involved in numerous entrepreneurial groups over the years.
She is survived by daughters Carrie Lowe and Sarah Taylor in addition to sons-in-law Jerry Lowe and Jordan Taylor, grandchildren Nova and Angel as well as great-grandson Sean, in addition to brother John Crutcher and wife Cathy. Additionally, she is survived by her beloved and cherished pets Mocha and Chancey who were her constant companions.
She was preceded in death by first husband Kenneth Freeman, second husband Jim Spears, mother Anne Gateway Crutcher, father Jack Bobo Crutcher, in addition to brothers James Crutcher and Bobby Crutcher.
As an avid gardener, reader and baker she ran several businesses over the years following her passions and chasing her dreams while helping others to pursue their dreams in any way she could. From tending to roses to baking delicious treats, she was always finding something fulfilling to do with her time and energy.
She spent her later years continuing her love of hobbies while also caring for the cats that were her beloved companions and spending time with family. As a staunch believer of standing up for her beliefs she passed those traits onto both of her daughters who have continued her legacy.
Per her wishes there will be no funeral service, and the daughters will hold a private ceremony to spread ashes along with the ashes of her beloved Jim at a location that was treasured by them both at a time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations in her name to one of her favorite organizations: Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc or the Chattanooga Humane Educational Society.
