Charles Phillip “Phil” Von Schaaf, Sr., 74, of Chattanooga passed away Monday, August 20, 2018. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. A graduate of Chattanooga City High School class of 1962, Phil played football, was Cadet Colonel in the ROTC and was an officer of the Key Club. He attended Georgia Tech before entering the family business. He was co-owner and President of Modern Welding Supply, Inc. Phil was a friend of Bill W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Henry “Jack” and Ruth Lane Von Schaaf.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Von Schaaf; son, Chuck (Rachel) Von Schaaf; grandchildren, Chase Von Schaaf, Carson Von Schaaf and Bruce James Courtney; sisters, Jackie Von Schaaf (David) Sandifer and Missy Von Schaaf (Brad) Keith; Sister-in-law, Sandy (Jack) Manis; Nieces and nephews, Stacey (Jon) Buford, Hal (Melissa) Sandifer, Phillip (April) Sandifer, Jake (Martha) Keith, Jimmy (Kelly) Manis, Tony (Terri) Manis and Patti (Corky) Owen; a host of great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Rev. Tony Wilson and the Rev. David Sandifer officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South. Pallbearers will be Hal Sandifer, Phillip Sandifer, Jon Buford, Travis Kelly, Jack Sandifer and Will Buford. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Manis, Tony Manis, Corky Owen, Cody Owen and Jake Keith. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
