

As a follower of Christ, Christine was loving, kind and sweet to friend and stranger alike. She particularly loved small children.
She served as a pediatric nurse at Children’s Hospital for 18 years and as a triage nurse at Memorial Hospital for 23 years. She also had served at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis and Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. The daughter of a nurse and a sister of nurses, she also had served in the practice of her late father, surgeon Dr. George G. Young.
Mrs. Cooper was a graduate of Missionary Ridge School, Girls Preparatory School and received her B.S. in nursing from the University of Michigan. She was a Delta Delta Delta alumna.
She was active at First Presbyterian Church where she was secretary/greeter in the Primary Department for 35 years, making every little child feel special. She had been a Red Cross nurse at Lutheran School.
She had served as a child advocate in the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program and as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House.
She loved to travel. She and her husband had traveled to 48 of the 50 states, France, England, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Panama Canal and Israel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. George G. and Irene C. Young; and a sister, Martha Y. Walker.
She is survived by her husband, David C. Cooper, Chattanooga; son, George R. Cooper, Knoxville; sisters Dr. Robin Y. Wood, South Natick, Mass., Ellen Y. (Rick) McCashin and Maggie Y. Hall, both of Chattanooga; stepmother, Bettye A. Young; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held at noon Friday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chris Ehlers and family members officiating. A private burial service will be held earlier at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be teachers and leaders in the church Primary Department.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 5-8 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel, and one hour before the service in the church Connector.
