

Christine Conley Lawing of Chattanooga went to be with her Lord on her 97th birthday, July 13, 2014. She was born in Calhoun, Georgia and lived most of her life in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Central High School and McKenzie Business College. Her professional career spanned 79 years. She worked at Bryan Hosiery Mill and Tennessee Plywood and Door Company. She worked at Cooley’s Fine Clothing in Red Bank until she was 94 years old. She loved dearly the people she worked with and the customers she met on a daily basis. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the Eastern Star. She was a former member of East Lake Baptist Church, Brainerd Baptist Church and was currently a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church.
Christine loved life. Her motto was “make a new friend everyday” and Life’s short don’t waste it”. She took pride in her appearance, her home family and friends, career and driving until she was 94. She was always on the go. She loved fine restaurants, her view of Lookout Mountain, listening to her birds, and feeding squirrels
She was loved by her son, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Doris… and the multitude of friends she made in her lifetime. She is a great example of a life well lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents Parks and Evelyn Conley, sister Mary Rice, Brother Dr. Charles Conley, and nieces Jane Rice and Charlotte Conley.
Survivors include one son, Frederick Lee Lawing, Jr., five grandchildren: Rachel (Trey) Campbell, Phillip (Michelle) Lawing, Tim (Jennifer) Lawing, Matthew Lawing and Adam (Rachel) Lawing, six great grandchildren Sarah, Lindsey, Grace, Sam, Shelby and Haleigh.
A celebration of Christine’s life will be held 1:00 pm Friday, July 18, 2014 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. David Harr officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, South.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Thursday evening and from 11-1 of Friday morning.
