He was a graduate of The McCallie School, class of '53, where he was a competitive swimmer, winning the pool record at the industrial YMCA in Chattanooga and winning 1st place in the Mid-South 50 yard free style for McCallie in 1952 & '53. He also graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology, Class of 1957 in Mechanical Engineering, where he belonged to the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and won 2nd place in the SEC 100 yard & 200 yard Breast stroke in 1956 & '57. David was a long-time fan of Ga. Tech and a great fan of UTC where his father, Scrappy Moore coached for 42 years. After graduation from Ga. Tech, David served for 3 years as an aircraft maintenance officer in the US Air Force. His periodic maintenance group dramatically increased the production rate and improved quality by use of an incentive plan which he installed. He founded and owned David F. Moore & Associates, Inc. a distributor of industrial pumps, valves and instrumentation for 35 years. His company received national recognition in 1992, as published by Industrial Distribution magazine for being #5 on the list of "top 25 top small distributors" in the nation. He retired in 2002. David loved tennis, golf and boating and later in life spent much time on the pickleball courts. He was a member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. He loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and is a Christian with the Lord. David served on the board of the House of Refuge affiliated with the Church of the Firstborn and had also served as chairman during his last year with them. He was a member of Lookout Mountain club, Mountain City Club, Chattanooga Yacht club, Chattanooga Golf and Country club. He loved and enjoyed being with his friends from Chattanooga. Stories of childhood experiences rang out with laughter during their visits.
David was a special encourager and supporter of his wife, Veronica, and he shared her passion for prayer and protection for our future generations.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Andrew Cecil "Scrappy" Moore.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Veronica Moore, sons, Dr. David (Leslie) Moore, Wesley (Carolynn) Moore, brother Andrew Cecil (Liz) Moore, grandchildren Braeden and Will Moore. He will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral service will be held at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 12, at 1:30 p.m. ET with family receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. in the LMPC chapel. Burial will follow at the Forest Hills cemetery in Chattanooga.
