Mr. Delbert William Hale Jr. transitioned to his heavenly home on September 18, 2024. Mr. Hale, as he preferred to be called, was born to Delbert and Frances Hale in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1943. He resided most of his 81 years in Hamilton County. His parents and his wife, Debbie Hale, preceded him in death.
Mr. Hale graduated from East Ridge High School in the first graduating class of 1961. As a young man, he was a barber like his father. He attended Tennessee Technical University and graduated with a Masters of Education Administration and Supervision. He worked as a math teacher, while also coaching football and track, at his alma mater before becoming the first principal at Brown Middle School. He returned to East Ridge to become principal at East Ridge Elementary before becoming principal at Ooltewah Elementary and later retiring out of the central office of Hamilton County Schools.
Mr. Hale was a lover of the outdoors, family, fine dining, and adventure. He often spoke of hunting ducks and geese with great friends and retrievers. The wonderful staff at Life Care Center of East Ridge brought him joy and comfort over the last two years. Those left to cherish his memory include his children Scott (Leslie), Christi (Brad), Ben (Amy), Jennifer (Travis), and Mark (Brittany). His grandchildren Mary-Marlowe, Laney, Miller, Thomas, and Whitaker will always remember him. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Arrangements are being made by Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel. Mr. Hale wished not to have a visitation or funeral, but requested memorial donations to be made to Ducks Unlimited.
