in McMinnville, Tennessee to Grady George and Mary Jane Nipper Giles, who
preceded her in death as did one sister, Margaret Giles Hudson. The family moved to
Chattanooga in 1929 where she lived until 1967 at which time she relocated to Rossville,
Georgia where she lived the rest of her life.
A 1941 graduate of Central High School our mom (gagi) was a member of several clubs,
including the Girl's Battalion that marched with the band during halftimes. It was at the
Rialto Movie Theatre where she worked as a 'candy girl' that she met Harry J Phillips
(died 1990) who was an 'usher' and the rest is history.
Throughout a twenty year period our mom (gagi) was a chemist at the TNT Plant during
three wars. She then worked in the lab at Erlanger for fourteen years and was their first
Phlebotomist. There's more but lastly she retired from Corporate Medical Services at the
age of 90. She was a lifetime member of Brainerd Baptist Church and a
member of Pocahontas Chapter #165 Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves behind two sons Harry Phillips and Dick (Marcia) Phillips, daughter Robbie Phillips,
8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery led by Brian Phillips on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home prior to the service from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Stan, Harry, Grady, Brian, Richard and David Phillips.
Thanks to granddaughter, Paige, Dick and Marcia our mom (gagi) was never alone or
uncared for during her final days but it was her first grandchild, Stan, who was always
there and whose strength was in constant demand. So many loved her and she will be
missed more than ever ... by me.
