

She was above all a devoted Christian throughout her life. She was a member of East Brainerd Baptist Church. She was active there in Sunshine Club, WMU and working with little children.
She was born in Meigs County on September 2, 1924. She was raised in Meigs County and East Chattanooga. She graduated from Chattanooga Central High in 1942. She married James T. (Ted) Masengil January 12, 1946. They raised three children, John, Glenda and Wilburn. She put her family first and was always there to lend a helping hand to "the kids".
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Florence Coffman, brother Wayne Coffman, and her beloved husband of 59 years, Ted Masengil.
Memories will be cherished by her sister Agnes (Bob) Blevins of Irving, Texas; sons John (Mary Jo) Masengil of Harrison and Wilburn (Conli) Masengil of Chattanooga; daughter Glenda (Steve) Ale of Chattanooga; grandchildren Christi (Danny) Davis of Signal Mountain, Sara (Ben) Knox of Ooltewah, Robyn (Michael) Baker of Fayetteville, NC, Ian Ale, Jared Masengil, and Melissa Masengil of Chattanooga; great grandchildren Hunter Davis, Jackson Davis and Christian Davis all of Signal Mountain and Aubrey Knox of Ooltewah and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the caregivers at The Lantern at Morning Pointe and Hospice of Chattanooga for their devoted care of Dorothy and her family.
Any memorials gifts can be made in honor of Dorothy to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4-7 and Sunday from 1-3 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home at 404 S. Moore Rd.
Funeral services will be held on 3:00 Sunday at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel with Bill Spencer, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.
