Dorothy was born August 27, 1924. She is a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. Her love and passion for quilting, embroidery, gardening, canning, cooking and helping others will be missed by her family and many friends. Dorothy was a hard worker and she and her husband owned Orr’s Plant Farm. They grew plants and strawberries for over 50 years in the community. She also volunteered at Bethel Bible thrift store for many years. Dorothy also was a big fan of and loved watching the Atlanta Braves.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.J. Orr, Jr., her parents, W.R. and Lizzie Pruitt; sisters, Lela Orr, Hazel Hogan, Mazie McDaniel, Louise Morgan, brothers, Tuck Pruitt, John Henry Pruitt; grandson, Thomas Steffner II and great-grandson, Adam Taylor.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara Schaerer (John), Sue Steffner (Tom) of Chattanooga; Elaine Tankersley Crosslin (Don) of Ocala, Florida. Her son, Edward Orr (Leslie) of Athens. Grandchildren: D.D. Steffner, Chattanooga; Tara Steffner, Fripp Island, SC; Troy (Robin) Orr, Ooltewah; Mark Orr, Banning, California; Starr (Nathan) Smith, Ringgold; Suzanne (Kirk) Stehr, Hixson; Kristi Tankersley, Ooltewah; and Jason (Allison) Tankersley, Apison, 10 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Effie “Jean” Pruitt and Doris Orr, Dallas, TX, and many much loved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Old McDonald cemetery with Pastor Ronnie Dotson officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at LifeCare of Collegedale and Hearth Hospice for their excellent care and support during this trying time.
