Edgar William “Billy” Godsey, III, 65, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on August 29, 2026. Born in Chattanooga on August 19, 1961, Billy moved through life with the easy stride of a true free spirit—equal parts curiosity, mischief, and warmth, always ready to follow the next good story, the next good song, or the next good bite.
If you knew Billy, you knew two things right away: he liked his music loud, and he liked his food done right. An excellent cook and chef, he was never more in his element than behind a grill, turning an ordinary moment into something worth gathering around. Whether it was at Texas Roadhouse or at the Waffle House, Billy had a gift for making a meal feel like an occasion and for making sure nobody left hungry.
He also had a soft spot for a little mystery. Movies and books filled with intrigue and conspiracy were right up his alley, the kind of stories that kept him entertained and kept conversations lively. And when it was time to slow things down, his favorite pastime was spending time at the lake fishing—content with the water, the line, and the simple pleasure of being exactly where he wanted to be.
Known as Billy, Bubba, Daddy, and most recently Grandpa, he will be tremendously missed by his mother, Wilma Jean Godsey; his sister, Laura Godsey Sencabaugh; his children, William (Megan), Joseph, Alex (Haley), and Patti; his granddaughter, Marcie Jean; and his aunt, cousins, nephews, many extended family, and dear friends.
A private celebration of Billy's life will be held by family and close friends.
