Ellen Griffin

Ellen Griffin, 95, of East Ridge passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026. She was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where she had taught and was a member of the Pioneer Sunday School Class. Ellen was a graduate of Berry College. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She taught Algebra at East Ridge Middle and East Ridge High Schools for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Steed Griffin; parents, Felix Harlan “Pete” and Jessie Mae Morgan Griffin; sister, Genevieve (Luther) Pugh; a daughter-in-law, Claudette Griffin.

Survivors include her son, David Griffin; daughter, Lisa (Jim) Steele; two grandsons, Carter (Sarah) Griffin and Spencer (Catherine) Griffin; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Griffin and Charlotte Griffin; several nieces and nephews and her pug, Nappy,

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. Burial will take place on Wednesday morning in a private ceremony.

A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at 1 PM Wednesday at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Daniel Wright officiating.
