A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, she was the first female from this area to join the WAVES.
Mrs. Cox attended Hunter College in New York, Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, OK and graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a bachelors degree.
Mrs. Cox was formerly employed by The Chattanooga Times and was retired from TVA after 35 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tokie J. and Eldetta McConnell and husband William M. Cox.
Survivors include one son, Terry Wayne Cox(Jeanie) of Harrison, TN; one daughter, Cathie Gayle Cox of East Ridge, TN; one grandson, Richard Wayne Cox of New York, NY; one granddaughter, Amy McConnell Thomas(Brad) of Ooltewah, TN; one great granddaughter, Rylee McConnell Thomas; and one great grandson, Andrew Morgan Thomas.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-7.
