Fran Phillips

Born in Morganton, North Carolina on October 6th, 1927, to Clarence D. Glenn and Lois Singleton Glenn; Fran spent her early years in various cities in North Carolina. She married the love of her life, Don Phillips, in June 1945. They spent 63 years together in mutual adoration. Over 40 years of their married life was spent in Tennessee, mainly Chattanooga.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, C.D. Glenn, 2001, son, Greg in 2007, and husband, Don in 2008.

Fran is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Fradonna (Lou) Griffin of Garland, TX; Daughter-in-law and grandson, Lisa and Matthew Phillips of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter Christy Parker (Heath) of Pampa, TX; grandson Dr. David Simmons ( Lisa) of Carlsbad, NM; sister Joann Squires of Charlotte, NC; and five great grandchildren: Bryce, Kade, and Jancey Parker; and Bowan and Sadie Simmons. She was lovingly known as Mama Fran or Frannie to all of her grandchildren who will always remember her cheerful smile and contagious laugh. She is also survived by her nieces and a nephew who were very special to her; Diana Holmes, Carolyn Pittman, Cynthia Belt, Candace Schmitt, Heather Trammell, and Glenn Squires. She and Don were also blessed with many life- long friends, too numerous to mention, that they considered family.

Fran had several four-legged “children” throughout her life and took great joy in walking them on the paths of Chickamauga National Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to McKamey Animal Shelter, 4500 North Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 37413; or Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, P.O. Box 2128, Ft. Oglethorpe, GA 30742.

Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2011 from 11:00-1:00 at the funeral home. Services will directly follow at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel. Private burial will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
