George Monroe Upton, Jr.

George was a Master Mason, Past Master of the East Ridge Lodge #755 F&AM and a member of the Alhambra Shrine.

He was retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant and then began a career in restaurant work. He was with Kentucky Fried Chicken for 8 years and then with Hardees for 20 years as General Manager.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha June Upton and his son, Danny Upton.

Survivors include three sons, Tommy (Lori) Upton of Ringgold, GA, Steve Upton of Reidsville, GA and Jeff (Jodi) Upton, of Ringgold, GA; one daughter, Sheree (Allen) Weeks of Chickamauga, GA; nine grandchildren, Brianna Upton, Ashley Scarbrough, Heidi Bates, Morgan Weeks, Arlena Upton, Georgia Upton, Brittany Grubb, Haley Grubb and Kaitlyn Ballard; one great-grandson, Brayden Scarbrough; one brother, Don Upton; one sister, June Troyer; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Rev. Bill Broome officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
