She was a faithful member of Ridgedale Church of Christ. She spent much of her time caring for others in their time of need, putting their needs ahead of her own. She also enjoyed a special fellowship with her quilting group at church.
Hazel helped established the Siskin Memorial Foundation Dental Clinic where she spent over 40 years caring for the needs of the handicapped children in the community.
She was active with the Associated Women of Boyd-Buchanan School for many years and a supporter of the school.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Nancy Burns of Chattanooga; son, Tim (Jami) Burns of Ringgold, and beloved granddaughter, Emily Grace Burns of Ringgold; sister Cordia (Paul) Phillips of Chattanooga; sister-in-law Janice (Bob) Kennedy of Ringgold; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joseph C. Burns; three brothers, Coland, Ralph and Louis Boggs; four sister, Rose Belle Ramey, Grace Broyles, Edythe Tennyson, and Lucille Kyle.
A special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga, nurse Sarah; dear friends, Maude Hambright, Georgia Anna and Melvin Stewart; and members of Ridgedale Church of Christ for their love and support to Hazel and her family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the funeral home with Minister Ken Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
