She was preceded in death by her parents James William Cherry and Lillian Day Cherry, a brother Charles Cherry and a sister Annie B. Cherry.
Hazel was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a 1946 graduate of Central High School. She was a member of Professional Secretaries International and NSA. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga and the McAllester Bible Class, serving as their secretary-treasurer for 25 years.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Don Callaway “Bo” Hays; son Rob C (Sabrina) Hays; three grandsons Stephen (Brittany) Hays, Shawn (Toni) Hays and Brian (Pepper) Hays; great granddaughters Ivy Hays, Ava Hays and Harper Hays; and nephews Keith Cherry and Don Cherry.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 am Monday, August 26 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Lanny Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3-6 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
