Helen Virginia Green, 89, died November 2, 2026. A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Helen’s life was marked by steady devotion, determined hard work, and a generosity that seemed to multiply the more it was given away. She carried herself with quiet strength and an open heart, offering care in ways both practical and tender, food set before someone who needed it, flowers shared just because they would brighten a day, and love extended to nearly everyone she knew.
Born January 31, 1937, Helen grew up in Madisonville, TN, where she graduated from Madisonville High School and was a proud member of the Beta Club. Those early years helped shape the steadfast spirit that would guide her through every season of life; one defined by compassion, diligence, and a willingness to keep going, one step at a time.
Helen built a career as an Accounting Clerk, first with Western Union and later with Blue Cross Blue Shield. In each role, she brought the kind of reliability that others leaned on; devoted to doing things well, and caring about the people around her as much as the work itself.
For over 60 years together—married for 59—Helen shared her life with Chester Allen Green. Their marriage was a testament to loyalty and enduring partnership, a steady home base from which Helen poured herself into family life with unwavering care. She was the mother of Brenda Jarvis and Jennifer Bond, and a proud grandmother to Michael Allen Wise, Helen Katherine Wise, and William Allen Jarvis.
Helen’s interests reflected both her nurturing nature and her adventurous streak. She found joy in gardening and cooking—creating beauty and comfort with her hands, and she loved traveling, always ready to see what was beyond the familiar. She also enjoyed shooting and arts & crafts, pursuits that spoke to her determination, focus, and the satisfaction she took in learning, making, and doing.
Helen’s legacy is not only in the years she lived, but in the way she lived them: compassionate, caring, generous, and steadfast. As a caregiver, she seemed to instinctively know what someone needed, and then, with devotion and quiet resolve, she provided it.
