Mr. Whitton was born and raised in Section, Alabama. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church where he belonged to the King’s Men’s Sunday School class. He retired as the manager of the Chattanooga Times Free Press Garage and Fleet after 42 years and was a member of the Free Press Retiree’s Group. He was also a member of the Western Chapter Number 80 Royal Arch Masons in Dalton, GA, the American Legion in St. Elmo, and a US Air Force Staff Sergeant Veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death his wife of 63 years, Gaynell Whitton.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Aricia) Whitton and Barry Whitton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren, Julie, Alexis, Alaina, and Jake; and sister, Dorothy Burns of Hartselle, Alabama.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, May 7th at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 8th at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Ray Marler officiating.
