He was born on April 4th, 1942 to James Henry and Frances Marie Butler, who preceded him in death. He was best known as Pappy to all those that knew and loved him. Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ora Mae; children Rick (Melinda) Butler, Sherry (Shawn) Gilchrist, and Cindy (Chris) Ramey. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren (Daniel) Lee, Lindsey (Justin) Denton, Stewart (Cat) Gunter, Madison (JP) Patterson, Mackenzie Ramey and his 7 great grandchildren.
Born and raised of the Catholic Faith and was a dedicated member of The Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and graduated from Notre Dame High School. Pappy was quick-witted with his humor and loved to watch NASCAR and Notre Dame Football.
A graveside service to honor Pappy’s life will be held on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at 11:30am at Mount Olivet Cemetery in East Ridge, TN.
