Born in Gadsden Alabama on August 17 1952, James' family moved to Chattanooga in the mid 1960's where he attended Brainerd Jr. High and Brainerd High school where he enjoyed playing the clarinet in the band.
James graduated from UTC with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and history. He moved to Blue Ridge Ga. in the 1970's where he taught school. Later he was employed as a school bus driver, church custodian and groundskeeper for St. Augustine church on Signal Mt. and as a courier for Cornerstone Community bank until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents Christopher Thomas Makres and Bessie Connell Makres and a brother Chris Thomas Makres Jr. who died in infancy.
He is survived by his sisters Angeline Christine Makres Gann, Theodora Dena Makres Sayne (Mike) and his nephew Adam Reagan Sayne, with whom he shared a birthday.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 8th at 11:00 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. A funeral service will follow at noon with internment at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hwy 153 immediately after the service.
