Jettie "J.R." Raymond Darby Jr.
August 29, 1921 – April 11, 2018
Jettie “J.R.” Raymond Darby Jr., 96, passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. He was born on August 29, 1921 to the late Jettie R. Darby Sr. and Belle Copeland Darby. J.R. was a veteran of WWII serving in the China Burma India Theater, where he flew 93 Missions. J.R. was awarded several metals to include the Air Metal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart for being wounded on his 49th mission. He worked as a public safety officer for over 33 years with TVA and was a member of Covenant Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma Delozier Darby, daughters Peggy Kesterson and Nancy Seagroves. J.R.is survived by his children, Carol Darby, Ron (Rhonda) Darby; five grandchildren, Alisa Stipanov, Valerie Miller, William Kelley, Kristin Coverly, and Glenn Darby; and nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Emily’s Power for a Cure at P.O. Box 1387, Hixson, TN 37343 or at emilyspowerforacure.com, or the American Cancer Society. Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm Monday, April 16, 2018 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors with the Rev. Bob Patty officiating. There will be no visitation.
