Elizabeth Joann Pearson, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at home with her family. Born April 10, 1934, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Elizabeth was the daughter of Genevea and Oliver Tate. She was a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Known to friends and family as JoAnn, she carried herself with steady courage and a determined spirit. A hard-working woman who gave of herself without hesitation, JoAnn met life’s demands with resolve—overcoming so much, especially after becoming a single mother to four children. Her strength was not loud or showy, but constant, shaped by perseverance and a selfless devotion to those she loved.
JoAnn found comfort and enjoyment in simple, faithful routines. She was an avid reader and especially loved a game of solitaire and rummy, pastimes that suited her quiet focus and enduring patience. She was also a lifetime member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, where her long commitment reflected a life grounded in faith and steadfastness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Genevea and Oliver Tate; her brothers, Larry and Wayne Tate; her sisters, Audrey Hensley and Sandra Douglas; her son, Andy Jones; her daughter, Aarica Mincey; and her granddaughter, Jennielynn Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Mincey Eaton; her son, Keith Pearson; and her grandchildren, English Mincey and Keith Pearson, Jr.
A Celebration of JoAnn's life will be held privately in the Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
