Johnny Lansford McCullough, 91, of Englewood, TN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 24, 2025. He was born on August 23, 1934, in Chattanooga to the late Andy Woodrow McCullough and Margurite Rose Schwieger McCullough. A lifelong man of faith, Johnny was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army for 23 years, retiring as a Major. His service included the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam. A paratrooper and helicopter pilot, Johnny’s dedication to the military was so great that he even attempted to re-enlist during the Gulf War, only to be told he had aged out of service.
Following his military career, Johnny earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Troy State University in 1975. He later pursued computer programming studies at Chattanooga State, finishing just shy of a second degree. His professional life spanned many roles in management, bookkeeping, and administration with East Ridge Hospital (now Parkridge East), Hutcheson Medical Center, Durr-Fillauer, A-1 Truck and Trailer, J.C. Curtis Construction, and finally N. GA Welding and Fabrication, where he retired in 1999. In addition, Johnny managed several cattle and horse farms and delighted in raising and caring for his horses—owning as many as thirteen at one time.
Outside of work, Johnny enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, from water and snow skiing to deep-sea fishing, farming, and spending time outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce McCullough, his parents, and his sister, LaDonna Brief.
Johnny will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 12 years, Gail McCullough; his children, Toni McCullough, Erin (Pete) Wiedel, Lori McCullough, and Andrew (Jenna) McCullough, Chelsea (JJ) Humann, Dana (Matthew) Titlow; his grandchildren, Caitlen and Stephen Wiedel, Jayden and Cambrie Titlow; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Johnny’s Life will be held at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Joe Jacks officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors at 2:00 p.m.
