

Joseph L. Dobson, age 84, of Chattanooga died Monday March 5, 2012. He was born March 17, 1927 in Rockmart, GA to the late John Leander and Lenora (Motes) Dobson. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Sarah Motes, who raised him after the death of his mother.
Mr. Dobson was a World War II Army veteran serving in Occupied Germany. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church for 55 years, singing in the choir for 48 years and serving as a deacon. He was employed by W. R. Grace Chemical Co. as a research and developmental chemist for over 30 years.
As a young man he enjoyed flying planes as a hobby and was admired by his fellow students being voted best all around in his senior class. Later he enjoyed gardening, reading, and woodworking.
He was a humble, quiet man who never boasted about his accomplishments. His caring attitude was evidenced by his involvement in Habitat for Humanity, visiting nursing home, going on missions trips, and giving to those in need.
Survivors include his wife, of almost 64 years, Adlene Dobson, daughters Carla (Richard) King and Cheryl (David) Walker; grandchildren Andrew Issitt and fiancé Libby Koerner , Sara Walker and Harrison Walker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday March 8, 2012 at 12:30 pm in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Moses officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30-12:30 Thursday.
