Katherine Pennell Dixon

Katherine Pennell Dixon (Katie) , age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2013. Katie was born June 7, 1922, here in Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delaney and Elsie Sims Dixon and her sister, Charlotte Ann Dixon.

She was a graduate of Girl's Preparatory School, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the Chicago Institute of Interior Design. She taught courses in Interior Design at Chattanooga State and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She was an Interior Designer for many in the Chattanooga area.

Katie belonged to many organizations: ASID, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, East Tennessee Episcopal Cursillo, Order of St. Luke the Physician and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

She is survived by cousins Henry Powell Dixon (Joyce) of Birmingham, Alabama, Michael H. Stohlman (Patricia) of New Orleans, Louisiana and Joyce Alsup of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The family wants to thank Katie's caregivers and dear friends Sharon Schier, Mary Lacy, and Carol Walker for their love and support of her in her later years.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Susan Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
