Kathleen Demos Phillips

Katy Phillips, 90, passed away from this world on Monday, July 29, 2019. She was the daughter of Chris and Bernice Demos. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Martin Phillips; granddaughter, Caitlin; brothers, Dr. Chris Demos, Jr., Dr. Robert G. Demos and Mr. Jim Demos. Survivors include her son Mike (Susan) Phillips; grandsons, Shaun (Jackie) Phillips, Seth Phillips and Sam (Allie) Phillips; great-grandchildren, Theodore and Emilia; several nieces and nephews. Katy was educated in local schools, was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church as a child and later First Centenary United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Republican Party and served as co-campaign manager in the successful campaign of Governor Winfield Dunn. She also served on the Governor’s Advisory Board. During her experience with the Air Force, she organized the Officer’s Wives serving as volunteer nurses aid in military hosptials. She was a Red Cross Nurses Aid. Her volunteer experiences were many. She served as an ombudsman, Meals on Wheels, Gray Lady at Erlanger, Parkridge and Siskin Hospitals, Children’s Dental Educator and many others. She was past president of the Missionary Ridge Garden Club and the 3rd District Dental Society and was extremely devoted to civic affairs. She had a long career in Dance and performed with the Memphis and Atlanta Ballet and later taught officer’s wives exercise through dance. Her love of animals was extraordinary and those that lived their lives with her were truly blessed. Katy was always active aiding others. She will be remembered for her glorious smile and effervescent personality. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1PM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or McKamey Animal Shelter 4500 N. Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415. My parents, Ted and Alice Phillips were close friends of Katy. I’ve know Katy for many years, and my husband, Curtis and myself spent many memorable occasions with her. We will never forget her infectious smile. She will be missed by many.
