

care. His son Michael preceded him in death. He leaves his wife Carol of 25 years, his daughter Angie Layne, her husband Michael, grandson Brandon Layne, sister Dr. Nancy Cairns , and her husband George.
A native of Chattanooga, Ken attended Baylor School, graduated from Brainerd High School and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee. After three years as comptroller of a major recording company, he returned to Chattanooga and joined the accounting firm of his father Nathan Eugene "Woody" Underwood. He was president of Underwood, Wilkey, and Company, CPAs, before he retired.
Ken was an avid bowler and Harley-Davison rider, enjoyed card games of all kinds, and had a quirky and wonderful sense of humor much appreciated by his family and friends. His generosity and compassion brightened the lives of the many people he helped; his decision to donate his body to
Medical education and science reflects that giving spirit. Love for and support of his family and friends was the central and most fulfilling part of Ken's life.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 23rd, from 3:00 to 7:00PM, followed by a memorial service at
7:00PM., at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel with Rev Dr. George Cairns officiating.
The family would like to thank all of the “angels” of Hospice of Chattanooga for the compassionate and wonderful care they gave Ken.
