

Kit was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga Area and third generation owner of J.M. Steakley and Son Plumbing and was involved with the Chattanooga Theatre Center as an actor and board member.
Kit was preceded in death by his father, James K. Steakley, Sr.; mother Edith F. Steakley and his wife, Susan Hicks Steakley.
Survivors include his son, James K. “Tripp” Steakley, III; daughter, Kay S. (James) Hardeman; sister, Becky Whaley and brother, Mike (Sandra) Steakley; grandchildren, Graham Steakley, Kendal (Jake) Huber, Matthew (Katie) Hardeman and Allison Hardeman; great-grandchildren, Makinley Steakley, Daisy Huber and Emmett Huber.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at Forest Hills Cemetery with Chris Kidwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 - 8 PM Tuesday and from 9:30 – 10:30 AM Wednesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN.
Pallbearers will be Tripp Steakley, Kay Hardeman, Graham Steakley, Matthew Hardeman, Kendal Huber and Allison Hardeman.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Chattanooga Theater Center or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeast Tennessee.
