Lottie Katherine Gray, 91, passed away on September 5, 2018. She was one of seven children born in Corinth, Mississippi to the late John and Lessie (Russell) Bratten. She married Wilburn E. Gray on September 2, 1942. After the birth of their daughter, Virginia Ann in 1943 and son, W. Wayne in 1950 her husband who worked with TVA in Mississippi and Alabama took a transfer that brought them here to Chattanooga in the mid 1950’s. Lottie (as she was known by her Mississippi friends and family) and Kitty (as her friends here in Tennessee knew her) worked at Miller Brother Department Store in the Crystal Room downtown on Market Street, the Brainerd store on Brainerd Road and at Eastgate Mall for many years. She was well known for her fashion sense, her striking appearance, but most of all she is remembered for her generosity and her loving charitable spirit. “Kitty” was a member of the Ridgedale Church of Christ. She and her husband, Wilburn retired and moved to the Martin Boyd Christian home where they remained until Wilburn’s passing in 2017.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Wilburn E. Gray, parents, and all her siblings.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Ann (Miller) Asbury, Abbington, VA., and Wayne (Ann) Gray of South Pittsburg, TN., six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She will be laid to rest with her late husband in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday September 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.
The family wishes to extend a special note of sincere appreciation to Rita and the staff at Martin Boyd Christian Home for their thoughtful and caring attention and assistance throughout her final days.
