

Mamie Lou Meroney, 94, passed away on April 22, 2026. Born June 16, 1931, in Calhoun, Tennessee, Mamie was the daughter of the late Benjamin Frank Wood and Mary Elizabeth O'Daniel Wood. She lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and leaves behind a legacy defined by steadfast love, quiet strength, and a life spent putting others first.
Mamie’s life was shaped by faith and devotion. Rooted in her Baptist faith, she carried herself with a steady, faithful spirit, one that guided her through the days of joy and the days of challenge alike, and one that touched the lives of those who knew her best.
A hard-working and selfless presence in her home, Mamie was a homemaker who raised her three children with care, constancy, and a heart that never measured what it gave. The work of family life was never small to her; it was sacred, and she met it with the enduring dedication of someone deeply beloved.
Mamie is survived by her three children, Margie Posey of Chattanooga, Steve Burnette, of Cleveland, and Charlotte Justice (Larry) of Ooltewah. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ben, Roger and John Wood; and her sisters, Mary Bohm and Peggy Floyd.
A Celebration of Mamie’s Life will be graveside in the Chattanooga National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest along with her husband, Charles E. Meroney, who will also be buried at that time.
In celebrating Mamie, we remember a life well-lived marked by faithfulness, sustained by hard work, and made beautiful through the selfless love she so freely gave.
