Margaret Thomas Liggett Cope, 91 of Chattanooga, TN., was born in Miami, Fl., and moved here when she was six or seven years of age. Her father opened Liggett’s Ice Cream Store where she helped out as a young woman. Margaret was a graduate of City High School. She met her husband Luther Marvin Cope at church. They were wed on June 17, 1951. She and Luther moved to Memphis for a short period of time while he attended dental school. They moved back to the area where he opened a dental office and Margaret assisted him in the early years. She was a volunteer church librarian for over 40 years at Ridgeview Baptist Church and a member of the church for over 52 years. Upon moving in with her daughter she attended Ooltewah Baptist Church for the last nine years. Margaret loved to support her favorite charities, loved her family and her church. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Luther M. Cope, and her parents, Garnet Ewing Liggett and Elizabeth Thomas Liggett. Left behind to cherish Margaret’s memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Michael V. Shannon, Ooltewah, TN., granddaughters, April (Mark) Skinner, of Birmingham, AL., and Kelly (Colton) Davie, Sandy, OR., and one great-grandson, Hobie Davie. A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held at the Ooltewah Baptist Church on Friday April 13, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Larry Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday April 12, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Chattanooga or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The family would like to offer special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and Margaret’s caregivers, Mildred Brooks, and Peggy and T.J. Fowler for making her last weeks more comfortable and for taking such good care of her. Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Rd. East Ridge, TN 37412.
