Marie Stephenson

Marie grew up in Chattanooga and graduated from Central High School. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a founding member of the Hickory Valley Christian Church where she was a choir member for over 50 years. She also worked as the Secretary at White Oak Elementary School for 25 years, and was a sorority sister in Beta Sigma Phi for over 58 years.

Marie was predeceased by Victor Stephenson Sr., her husband of 24 years in 1985, and her sisters, Betty Lewis and Mary Catherine Gifford.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Victor Stephenson Jr. and Lesa (Roger) Witt, granddaughter Victoria (Tyler) Fowle, sister, Joan Stuckey and brother Dr. James Davis.

She lived a wonderful and marvelous life as a devoted and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, Christian, and sorority sister. She was caring and giving not only to her family but also to close friends and many others who came to know her.

Services celebrating her beautiful life will be held at Hickory Valley Christian Church, 6605 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421, on Thursday July 27, 2023 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church on Wednesday July 26, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 pm and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A burial service will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens East, 4621 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37411, at noon.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Marie’s sorority sisters, Beta Sigma Phi Nu Master Chapter.

Marie will be dearly missed and always remembered.
