

Marion was a faithful member of Brainerd United Methodist Church. She is a native of Rhea County, Tenn. and retired from the Chattanooga Publishing Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Simms, in 2001. She and Bob were avid outdoors people and archers, responsible for the creation of the Tennessee Archery Association and the Chickamauga Bowmen. Both were also creative artisans, passing on their love of the outdoors and the arts to their children. She especially enjoyed pottery, basket weaving and playing bridge. Marion gathered friends like wildflowers and left smiles behind wherever she went in life. She would ask the same in death.
She was also preceded in death by parents, John and Hattie Mitts, sister, Margaret Rice and brother Harold Mitts of Rhea County.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Sorkness and Richard (Barbara) Simms, her grandchildren Brian & James Sorkness and Priscilla & Tiffany Simms. She is also survived by her brother, Herbert Mitts, sisters Louise Webb, Ina (Dorman) Roach, Loretta (Tom) Louallen, Carolyn Carney (David Durham) along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday 4 pm until 8 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home - East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Rd. and 9 am until 10 am Saturday with funeral services to follow, good friend the Rev. Genevieve DeHoog officiating.
