

Martha Douthitt Eichelberger, 95, of Decatur, GA passed away after a brief illness on October 24 at her home in Decatur. She was born in Paducah, KY to the late Ira Douthitt Sr. and Reggie Ray Douthitt.
Martha was a graduate of David Lipscomb College and completed graduate work at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. She lived most of her life in Chattanooga, worked for many years as a social studies teacher at Brainerd High School, and retired as a supervisor with Chattanooga City School System. She was a long-time member of the Brainerd Church of Christ and later the East Brainerd Church of Christ. For the past 5 years, she lived in Decatur, GA and was a member of the Northlake Church of Christ in Tucker, GA.
Martha was a humble, faithful follower of Jesus Christ first and foremost in her life. She was known for her generosity and kindness to everyone who knew her. She passionately supported World Bible School, Chattanooga Inner City Outreach, Mission UpReach Honduran Ministries, Eastern European Missions, and India Mission. She had a “can-do” attitude about everything and always looked for the positive in any situation. She truly cared about other people and lived her life selflessly, serving others with everything she had. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Edward Eichelberger Sr. and two brothers, Ira Douthitt, Jr. and Earl Douthitt.
She is survived by two daughters, Anne Eichelberger Page, Carol Eichelberger, both of Decatur, GA; son, Edward (Mary) Eichelberger of Boerne, TX; grandchildren Dr. Andrew (Jinnie) Page of Atlanta, GA; Hannah Page and husband of Decatur, GA, Katie (Lane) Mandel of Dallas, TX, Julie (Preston) Woolfolk of San Antonio, TX, Dr Hillary Eichelberger (Raghav Gandotra) of New York City; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00 – 12:00 pm at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Tuesday November 29, 2022. A brief gravesite service will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
