

Merritt Frank Williams, 96, of Chattanooga passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016. He was a member of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Knights of Columbus and had volunteered at Ladies of Charity.
Mr. Williams was a graduate of UT Memphis Pharmacy School. In 1957 he opened Hickory Valley Drug Store. He later bought out Matthews Drug Store, later to become Williams Drug Store where he operated until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Williams was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII in the Atlantic Theater as a Lieutenant aboard a Sub Chaser and during the Korean War was in the Reserves.
He was a member of the Pharmaceutical Association, the Civitan Club, the Sertoma Club and continued as a relief pharmacist after his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Garmany Williams and 12 siblings.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol DuPont, Colleen Williams and Cathy Glascock; five grandchildren, Commander Max DuPont, Kelly Cooper, Steve DuPont, Carter Glascock and Frank Glascock; three great-grandchildren, Nathan DuPont, Sidney DuPont and Michael Cooper; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul 10:30 AM Monday with Father David Carter officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery 11:30 AM Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Sunday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
