On September 19, 2025, Michael Robert “Mickey” Myers of Chattanooga, TN, passed away at the age of ninety-five. Mickey’s years were active and full. His passion for living and hearty laugh will be missed by family, friends, and patients. He was born on May 21,1930, to the late William (Bill) Myers and Aimee Harrington and was preceded in death by his beloved wives Jean Myers and Frances “Jackie” Myers, two brothers, Billy Myers and Charles “Buddy” Myers, and two sisters, Pat O’Daniel and Barbara Shultz. He was also preceded in death by his late life sweetheart Thelma Potter.
A devout Catholic, Mickey was a member at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Soddy Daisy, TN, where he loved beginning each day with mass and singing in the choir. He lived out his faith with generosity, quick to take an interest in others, offer help when needed, or lift the mood with a joke.
Mickey was a graduate of Notre Dame High School class of 1949, where he held the state wrestling record for the fastest pin (12 seconds!). His skill in football was recognized with an athletic scholarship to the University of Chattanooga, where he graduated in 1953. He continued his education at Duke University earning his Physical Therapy degree. He prided himself on being one of the first physical therapists in Chattanooga and worked with children with special needs at the Mary Ann Brown Center at Siskin Rehab. He went on to start his own private practice and served various medical facilities throughout the Chattanooga area until his retirement. Mickey spent time as a Naval Reserve veteran and was an active member in several civic organizations including Civitan, Rotary Club, and the Knights of Columbus.
Mickey was often the first on the dance floor and remained a faithful fan of the Duke Blue Devils and Chattanooga Moccasins. As an avid golfer, Mickey loved attending the Master’s Tournaments, often inviting family and friends to join him in Augusta. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of his ski lessons on Soddy Lake, fishing on the pier with a cooler of cold drinks, and family cookouts with meals on the screened-in porch. His laid back, fun-loving personality drew people to him. He was a regular at the Soddy Daisy Senior Center where he always enjoyed lunch with Arnold Palmer tea, bingo, and a competitive card game of hand and foot with his good friends, Thelma and Darlene.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the compassionate nurses and staff at StoryPoint Assisted Living and his caregivers, Zofia and Magda, for their attentive support. We also thank the friends and family who played a significant role in Mickey’s life, many of whom joined him in his recent 95th birthday celebration at StoryPoint.
He is survived by his first wife, Dr. Tee Carr and their four children Beth (Terry) Smithson of Concord, North Carolina, Mike (Olga) Myers of King’s Lynn, England, Pat (Beth) Myers of Rock Spring, Georgia, and Chris Myers of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He is also survived by his three step-children Carla Self (Joe Nedley), Barry (Shea) Minnick, and Laura (Mike) Thielen.
