Mike (William Harvey) McAfee III

September 4, 1941February 9, 2020

Mike (William H.) McAfee passed peacefully at home with family Sunday February 9, 2020. He fought hard against Parkinson’s and other declining health issues as he did everything in life. Michael loved God, his family and friends and attended Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. He graduated from City High School class of 1959. Mike served honorably in the United States Army and was retired from Delta Airlines. His passion was sports, especially handball and golf and he was nicknamed “sweet feet” by his handball buddies. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jo; son Chance McAfee; daughter Niccole (Joseph) Kohlmann; and his grandchildren, Jordan McAfee and Korbin and Aiden Kohlmann. Special thanks to Melissa Mullins, his caregiver, for the love and tender care she gave “Mikey” and also to Amedisys Hospice. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Clair Sauer officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 – 1 PM Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church 6314 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to the Parkinson’s Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018. Prayers to Mike's family. Mike was a great friend the many years I traveled from the delta counter in Chattanooga before I moved to Nashville. He always had that twinkle in his eye and usually would harass me about something in a loving way. God got a good one in Mike.

Mike has been my friend since the 9th grade. The last time we got together was this last summer. He was not in good shape then, but he still had that friendly smile and great disposition. He was a good friend and I'm certainly going to miss him.

Mary Jo, .. thanks for taking such good care of him over the last few years.

I came to know Mike and Mary Jo at Rock Steady. He was so much fun to be around and was a hard fighter. I haven’t been to Rock Steady in a while, but I will miss him yelling Rock Steady. I will also miss talking with Mary Jo. Such a wonderful couple. My condolences to the family. Thank you Mike for your service. RIP

When I first started working with Nicci I met G'daddy. He walked into the office, I didn't know who he was and I said "Hi, how can I help you?" He replied "I got a question for you. Do I get my Sr-22 insurance before or after I get a DUI." I love you guys and praying for you all.

I worked with Mike for 30 years at Delta Airlines CHA. He will be greatly missed by me and all of his Delta brothers. Yes, I did say "Brother" because at Delta we were and still are brothers.
May God give Mary Jo and the extended family peace in knowing that they will one day again see Mike.

One of the best friends I have ever had. A good man, a little crazy.ha!
Enjoyed life even when it became hard. He was my daughter ‘s first boyfriend when she was 3.

She was so mad when he and Mary Jo got married.
Mary Jo, we are so very sorry. We loved him so much. We are so glad he is finally at peace.
