

Mildred was born on March 27, 1936, in Murphy, NC., to the late Fred and Nola Hert. She met the love of her life, Andrew Jack Hughes, Sr. and they were wed and eventually settled down and moved here to Chattanooga.
She and Jack were faithful and devoted members of South Seminole Baptist Church, having attended there at her death for 54 years. Mildred was very active in the church, and she had a deep passion for serving others and was known for providing for cooked items for church gatherings, community events, and those in need. Her kindness and giving spirit brought comfort and nourishment to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Andrew Jack Hughes, Sr., and her parents.
She is survived by her loving children, Andrew Jack Hughes II (Kimberly) and Debra Hughes, her grandchildren, Jarrod Nunley, and Levi and Ian Hughes, all of Chattanooga, her sisters, Mary Bell of Prescott Valley, AZ., Gwen Geesey of Fort Wayne, IN., and Lovenia Barker (Paul) of Snellville, GA., her brothers, Ronald Hurt (Marcil) of Murphy, NC., and Paul Hert (Jan) of Campbellsville, KY., her 8 nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Mildred’s life will be held graveside at 1:00 PM Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville, GA., with Pastor Greg Nash and Pastor Ron Perry officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to South Seminole Baptist Church in Mildred’s memory.
